Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced SeniorMainframe IBM Assembler (BAL) Developer with extensive expertise in the Connex payment switching platform to support a critical payment processing initiative involving Visa 0120 Automated Fuel Dispenser (AFD) transactions. This role requires deep technical knowledge of IBM Mainframe Assembler, real-time transaction processing, and payment messaging systems.
The successful candidate will work closely with client teams and Visa to implement enhancements that optimize fuel dispenser transaction processing, including pre-authorization updates, confirmation advice handling, and transaction reversals. This is a 100% remote position, offering the opportunity to contribute to a high-impact, enterprise-scale payments project.

Key Responsibilities
Core Development

• Design, develop, modify, and optimize IBM Mainframe Assembler (BAL) code within the Connex payment switching environment.
• Enhance and maintain functionality supporting Visa 0120 Automated Fuel Dispenser (AFD) transactions.
• Ensure high-performance, scalable, and maintainable code for mission-critical payment applications.

Real-Time Transaction Processing

• Implement logic enhancements to support dynamic pre-authorization amount adjustments.
• Update transaction amounts in near real-time based on fuel dispenser completion events.
• Ensure accurate transaction lifecycle processing while maintaining data integrity.

System Integration

• Collaborate with internal development teams, business stakeholders, and Visa to align application enhancements with Visa 0120 Confirmation Advice messaging.
• Ensure seamless processing of payment confirmations, reversals, and exception handling across integrated systems.
• Support end-to-end payment transaction flows within the Connex environment.

Testing & Debugging

• Utilize Xpediter to debug complex IBM Mainframe Assembler applications.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve production and testing issues efficiently.
• Participate in unit testing, integration testing, and system validation activities to ensure application stability.

Requirements Analysis & Solution Design

• Work closely with business analysts and client stakeholders to refine evolving technical requirements.
• Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions and detailed design specifications.
• Provide technical recommendations to improve system performance and maintainability.

Phased Delivery & Release Management

• Support a multi-phase implementation strategy while maintaining backward compatibility.
• Ensure smooth deployments with minimal disruption to production systems.
• Participate in release planning, implementation, and post-deployment support.

Required Qualifications
Technical Skills

• 15+ years of hands-on experience developing applications using IBM Mainframe Assembler (BAL).
• Extensive experience working with the Connex payment switching platform.
• Strong expertise using Xpediter for debugging and troubleshooting Mainframe Assembler applications.
• Deep understanding of financial payment processing systems and high-volume transaction environments.
• Experience with Automated Fuel Dispenser (AFD) payment workflows, including pre-authorization and transaction completion processes.
• Strong knowledge of near real-time transaction processing and payment integrity.

Professional Experience

• Proven experience supporting mission-critical, high-volume payment processing applications.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with evolving requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams and external payment networks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Visa ISO 8583 messaging standards and payment network protocols.
• Knowledge of Visa 0120 Confirmation Advice transaction processing.
• Experience supporting large-scale banking, financial services, or retail fueling payment systems.
• Familiarity with phased migration, modernization, or enterprise deployment strategies.
• Previous experience working directly with payment networks such as Visa or Client.
