The candidate will lead the configuration and generation of isoROMS simulations to advance understanding of the oxygen isotopic expression of tropical Pacific climate variability, including the El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO). This will inform the interpretation of existing modern observational and coral paleoclimate-based estimates of oxygen isotopic variability, and improve estimates of past ENSO variations. The candidate will join the dynamic and interdisciplinary research community in the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management. The position also includes close collaboration with colleagues at Brown University and the University of Illinois Urbana‑Champaign.QualificationsBasic qualifications: Applicants must have completed all requirements for a PhD (or equivalent international degree) in physical oceanography, climate science, atmospheric science, or related discipline, except the dissertation, at the time of application.Additional qualifications: A PhD (or equivalent international degree) in physical oceanography, climate science, atmospheric science, or related discipline is required by time of appointment.Preferred qualificationsDemonstrates experience working with large ocean and/or climate datasetsStrong written and verbal communication skillsExperience working in supercomputing environmentsPrevious experience running ocean and/or climate modelsFamiliarity with paleoclimate data interpretationApplication RequirementsDocument requirements:Curriculum Vitae – Your most recently updated C.V.Cover LetterStatement of ResearchReference requirements: 3 references (contact information only)Names and emails of 3 references who are prepared to provide letters of recommendation upon request.Apply link: contact: janhunter@ucsb.eduJob locationSanta Barbara County, CAEEO & Employment ConditionsYou will be required to disclose if you are subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that you committed any misconduct, and you must comply with the University of California Policy on Vaccination Programs and any applicable public health directives.
