Perform investigations, analyze data, and make decisions on firearms licences and authorisations. Remote work is not an option for any positions to be staffed.Responsibilities Investigate, analyse, and approve, refuse, or revoke firearms licences and authorisations for individuals, businesses and non‑profit organisations.Access police, court and other secure databases; conduct interviews with applicants, family members, employers, medical professionals, and other relevant parties.Coordinate and carry out inspections of firearms businesses, shooting ranges and private dwelling houses to ensure compliance with the Act and Regulations.Plan and implement outreach programmes to clients and stakeholder groups, including remote or Indigenous communities.Prepare and submit legal documents such as notices of refusal or revocation, court briefs, affidavits and disclosure materials.Recommend that decisions be referred to provincial court for review when appropriate.Required Experience Significant experience conducting complex investigations or inspections under a legislative, regulatory, policy or procedural framework.Significant experience conducting interviews to gather information required to make a decision or recommendation.Significant experience preparing correspondence that articulates detailed decisions or recommendations.Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel); advanced skills a plus.Education and Certification Secondary school diploma or employer‑approved alternative.Successful completion of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (required upon offer of employment).Required Skills and Abilities Effective written communication.Effective oral communication.Ability to interpret and apply legislation and regulations.Ability to present information to diverse audiences, including judicial bodies.Interpersonal effectiveness, judgment, dependability, initiative, attention to detail.Physical and Other Requirements Willingness and ability to work in environments with potential exposure to unsettling and graphic police files.Willingness and ability to travel to remote, rugged terrain and other locations as required.Willingness and ability to work overtime and variable hours.Ability to handle firearms, lift and carry up to 25kg (55lb).Valid driver's licence.Language Requirements English essential.Additional Skills (Asset) Handling, using or identifying firearms.Experience dealing with courts and court officials or providing testimony.EEO Statement The Public Service of Canada is committed to building a skilled and diverse workforce that reflects the population it serves.
