Title: Perfusionist
Location: Santa Barbara, California

We are seeking an experienced Perfusionist for a travel assignment in beautiful Santa Barbara, CA. This position works closely with the Chief Perfusionist and the cardiac surgery team to support a high-volume cardiac program performing approximately 400 heart cases annually. The program continues to expand with advanced aortic arch repair and complex grafting procedures, including Type A and Type B dissections.

The facility is open to first-time travelers who meet the experience requirements of the unit. Candidates must have strong cardiac surgery experience, including ECMO management and independent ECMO cannulation.

This role involves operating cardiopulmonary bypass equipment, supporting ECMO therapy, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes during complex cardiac and trauma procedures.

Shift:
Day Shift – 5x8-hour shifts
7:15 AM – 5:30 PM (first case typically begins at 7:15 AM unless urgent/emergent)

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and manage heart-lung machines during cardiac and major vascular procedures
  • Manage and monitor cardiopulmonary bypass during surgery
  • Provide ECMO support and perform independent ECMO cannulation when required
  • Operate and manage cell saver systems during surgical procedures
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes
  • Monitor patient physiological parameters and adjust perfusion techniques accordingly
  • Maintain perfusion equipment and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards
  • Participate in on-call rotation for urgent and emergent cardiac procedures

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of perfusion experience (candidates with 5–10 years may be considered)
  • Experience in CVOR, General OR, and Level 1 Trauma environments
  • ECMO experience including independent cannulation – required
  • Cell saver experience – required
  • Experience with complex cardiac procedures including aortic arch repairs preferred
  • Strong clinical decision-making and teamwork skills

Patient Population:
Adults and Geriatrics

Call Requirements:

  • On-call rotation required
  • Response time: 15 minutes
  • Alternate call with Chief Perfusionist
  • Weekend call every other weekend
  • Overnight call rotates weekly

Certifications Required:

  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
