Description:

PGS Worldwide is seeking an IR Detector Packaging Technician in Goleta, CA for a 1-year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. This is an on-site 2nd shift position within a lab complex focused on the packaging of IR detectors used in high-reliability space, military, and commercial applications. The role requires disciplined execution of detailed work instructions, strong microscope-based assembly skills, and strict adherence to safety and contamination-control practices.

Required Skills

  • 4+ years of relevant technician experience in a lab, cleanroom, electronics, micro-assembly, or precision manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work from engineering instructions with exceptional attention to detail and process discipline
  • Microscope-based work experience using small hand tools (tweezers, screwdrivers, etc.), often with both hands simultaneously
  • Ability to work extended periods in an environmentally controlled area and maintain focus on precision tasks
  • Basic to moderate computer skills for documentation/training and general workstation use
  • Comfort working with chemicals (epoxies, adhesives, solvents) while following handling and PPE requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to communicate in English and understand written and verbal instructions
Preferred Skills
  • Cleanroom and/or ESD-sensitive handling experience
  • Understanding of FOD (Foreign Object Debris) prevention methods and concerns
  • Familiarity with Z-scopes or similar inspection tools
  • Wire bond experience (highly desired)
What You'll Do
  • Package IR detector hardware for high-reliability applications following controlled processes and detailed instructions
  • Perform precision hands-on work under a microscope using fine tools and fixtures
  • Handle and apply chemicals (adhesives, epoxies, solvents) per documented procedures and safety protocols
  • Visually inspect small parts and assemblies, ensuring workmanship meets requirements before advancing work
  • Move materials and equipment as needed (including pushing carts and reaching above shoulder height)
  • Complete required online factory access training and progress through skill approval training under senior technicians/leads
  • Collaborate effectively with technicians, management, and process engineers while maintaining a safety-first mindset
