Description:

PGS Worldwide is seeking a Packaging Technician in Goleta, CA for a 1-year contract-to-hire role working 1st shift in a controlled manufacturing environment. This position supports a major aerospace & defense company and focuses on the precision packaging of infrared detector components used in high-reliability space, military, and commercial systems. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, disciplined, and comfortable working with small parts, chemicals, and sensitive hardware.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work from engineering instructions with exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience working for extended periods in an environmentally controlled or clean environment
  • Ability to use microscopes and small hand tools (tweezers, screwdrivers, etc.) with high dexterity, often using both hands simultaneously
  • Comfortable working with chemicals such as epoxies, adhesives, and solvents
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills
  • Ability to push carts, reach above shoulder height, and perform visual inspection of small components
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
Preferred Skills
  • Prior cleanroom experience and familiarity with ESD-sensitive hardware
  • Understanding of FOD (Foreign Object Debris) prevention practices
  • Experience using Z-scopes
  • Wire bond experience is highly desirable
  • Background working in precision electronics or component packaging environments
What You'll Do
  • Package infrared detector components following strict engineering instructions and disciplined procedures
  • Handle small, delicate components using microscopes, tweezers, and precision tooling
  • Work with chemicals and adhesives in accordance with safety protocols and PPE requirements
  • Follow detailed process documentation to ensure repeatable, high-reliability results
  • Maintain clean, organized workspaces with strong FOD and ESD control practices
  • Collaborate with senior technicians, leads, and process engineers for training, troubleshooting, and workflow coordination
  • Perform visual inspection of parts and document work per program requirements
  • Complete mandatory factory-access and skill-approval training
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and support continuous process improvements
