Pay: $38–$40/hr (flexible)

Location: Remote – candidates must reside in HI, CA, OR, or WA

Schedule: Must work Hawaiian Standard Time hours (M–F, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM HST)

Employment Type: Contract or Contract-to-Hire through LHH

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Hospital Coder I with strong physician and hospital-based coding expertise. This role involves reviewing medical records, assigning accurate codes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines. You will work remotely but must be available during Hawaiian Standard Time hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review medical records to identify diagnoses and procedures.
  • Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes for inpatient and outpatient encounters.
  • Select DRGs for inpatient cases and resolve discrepancies.
  • Abstract medical data accurately and ensure compliance with CMS, AHA, and organizational guidelines.
  • Communicate with physicians to clarify diagnoses and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to AHIMA coding ethics.
  • Meet productivity and accuracy standards (minimum 95% compliance rate).

Caseload & Performance Expectations

  • Caseload: High-volume hospital and physician-based coding.
  • Accuracy: Must consistently meet or exceed 95% coding accuracy.
  • Productivity: Complete coding and abstracting within established timeframes.

Required Qualifications

  • Certifications: CCS or CPC required; RHIT/RHIA preferred.
  • Completion of accredited coursework in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD-10, and CPT coding.
  • Minimum 2 years of continuous hospital coding experience within the last 5 years.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret clinical content and communicate effectively with physicians.
  • Basic PC skills; proficiency in Excel, Word, and familiarity with EPIC preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

Additional Details

  • Remote Work: Fully remote within HI, CA, OR, or WA.
  • Shift: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM HST.
  • Compliance: Must maintain current coding credentials and complete annual CE requirements.
