About the role:

The Design Engineer (Structural) supports the analysis, modeling, detailing, and coordination of structural systems for high-end residential projects. This individual-contributor role works under the direction and responsible charge of a CA-licensed PE, collaborating closely with architects, project managers, and consultants to translate design intent into clear, buildable solutions.

Candidates who may not meet every listed qualification are still encouraged to apply. A working familiarity with Revit and a willingness to quickly learn and become proficient are key. This position is ideal for an engineer on the path toward professional licensure; supervision and mentorship are provided by a CA-licensed PE.

This position can work from a remote home office in Santa Barbara, Ventura or Los Angeles Counties, or on site in our Santa Barbara office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain coordinated structural models and drawings in Revit. Prepare sheets, details, and markups.
  • Perform preliminary analysis and member sizing; assist with load paths and connection concepts using tools such as ENERCALC/RISA/EXCEL; compile calculation packages for PE review.
  • Draft typical details, specifications, excerpts, and redlines; maintain version control and documentation standards.
  • Coordinate with Architecture and other disciplines to resolve clashes and communicate design changes promptly.
  • Support construction phase services: review RFIs and submittals, track changes, and issue revisions per PE direction.
  • Participate in site visits with the PE; document observations, field measurements, and as-builts.
  • Contribute to internal standards (families, detail libraries, checklists) and continuous improvement
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or closely related).
  • 2-5+ years of structural design experience in building projects (wood, steel, concrete, and/or light gage).
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis software (e.g., RISA, ETABS, or similar) and proficiency in Revit; familiarity with AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
  • Solid understanding of building systems and constructability; familiarity with applicable building codes.
  • EIT certification not required but desirable
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills; organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
Computer Skills
  • Digital file management and standards.
  • Proficiency in Revit (BIM) and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Project, and Bluebeam Revu.
