Position Summary
Communications and Special Events Assistant supports the Computer Science Department Chair and Business Officer under the Academic Personnel and Operations Coordinator. The role develops outreach, plans departmental conferences, maintains the department website and social media, and assists in special events.
Key Responsibilities
- Special Events (35%): Assist in planning and executing departmental conferences, colloquia, annual CS Summit, faculty retreats, and other events. Manage logistics, travel, scheduling, and event materials.
- Department Communications (30%): Develop marketing and branding materials; write content for website, newsletters, and printed items. Maintain website news updates and social media presence. Produce promotional programs for CS Summit and distinguished lectures.
- Chairs Assistant (25%): Provide administrative support to the Chair and Business Officer, including calendar management, email handling, memo drafting, and PowerPoint preparation.
- Website Maintenance (10%): Update and add new content to the department website as directed by faculty and staff.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1?3 years clerical experience
- Strong administrative and organizational skills
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications
- Excellent verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, and time management
- Knowledge of writing fundamentals: grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation
- Ability to write clear, engaging copy for diverse audiences, maintaining tone and message consistency
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with social media posting
- Knowledge of UC travel and entertainment policies
- Knowledge of Drupal
- Familiarity with Concur
