Description:

PGS Worldwide is actively seeking skilled technicians to join our team supporting a leading aerospace and defense manufacturer in Goleta, California. This is a one-year contract-to-hire opportunity, offering the chance to work on mission-critical infrared detector systems used in space, defense, and advanced commercial applications.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to work from engineering instructions with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Comfortable working extended periods in an environmentally controlled (cleanroom) area.

  • Skilled in using a microscope and small hand tools (tweezers, screwdrivers, etc.), often requiring fine motor coordination using both hands simultaneously.

  • Basic to moderate computer literacy.

  • Must be able to communicate, read, and understand written and verbal instructions in English.

  • High school diploma or GED required.


Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience in cleanroom environments and handling ESD-sensitive components.

  • Understanding of FOD prevention and reduction methods.

  • Experience using Z-scopes preferred.

  • Familiarity with wire bonding or laser welding processes highly desirable.


Role Overview

Technicians in this role are responsible for the packaging and assembly of infrared (IR) detectors for high-reliability aerospace, military, and commercial applications. You will work closely with engineers, senior technicians, and production leads to execute detailed procedures with precision and consistency.

Daily tasks may include:

  • Handling chemicals such as epoxies, adhesives, and solvents in compliance with safety procedures.

  • Performing fine assembly work under magnification.

  • Using hand tools and microscopes to manipulate small, delicate parts.

  • Following rigorous and disciplined process documentation.

Physical requirements include the ability to:

  • Push carts and move light materials within the work area.

  • Extend arms above shoulder height.

  • Visually inspect small components for defects or inconsistencies.

Technicians are required to wear company-provided PPE and strictly follow all safety and cleanliness protocols.


Work Environment and Expectations

You'll join a collaborative, high-reliability manufacturing team. Training is provided by experienced technicians, leads, or process engineers, depending on the operation. Success will be measured by the ability to:

  • Successfully complete factory access and skills training.

  • Maintain quality and precision under cleanroom conditions.

  • Contribute effectively to team objectives through communication and reliability.
