Overview

Chief Innovation Officer role at Cottage Health. The position provides executive oversight of enterprise-wide activities that support innovation and technology commercialization. The CIO leads the Innovation Program and collaborates with institutional leaders to identify and develop opportunities for innovations in healthcare, and ensures effective evaluation, marketing, protection, and out-licensing of the intellectual property portfolio. The role also involves fostering partnerships with industry, investors, and development resources to advance commercialization efforts.

Base pay range

$366,000.00/yr - $527,040.00/yr

Major Accountabilities
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a strategy to accelerate innovation across the enterprise; refine commercially viable innovations and move them through a commercialization process; align activities with Cottage Health's mission and engage leadership and external partners as needed.
  • Operational Management: Lead the Innovation Program, manage key projects from development to deployment, establish an IP disclosure process, maintain the patent portfolio and IP database, and oversee budget and regulatory compliance.
  • Problem Solving: Build and operate a programmatic infrastructure to select, fund, and develop high-potential technologies for out-licensing or venture formation; continuously improve systems and tools for innovation.
  • Education & Training: Coordinate enterprise-wide training to support innovation processes and promote a culture using an innovation toolkit; support knowledge development around creative opportunities.
  • Financial/Budget: Develop and execute budgets, financial forecasting, and project management to deliver on time and within budget; monitor performance of investments in related funds to support innovation.
Qualifications

Education: Advanced degree (Master's level in business, law, or a related field) or equivalent demonstrated experience.

Years of Related Work Experience: Minimum 10 years of related experience in areas such as business management, innovation, venture/program development, IP licensing; minimum 5 years in a leadership role.

Technical Requirements: Experience with technology corporations; strong IP management and commercial translation of early-stage assets; experience negotiating strategic partnerships and licenses in healthcare, academic, or industry settings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong problem solving, decision making, leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills; ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; industry relationships are valuable.
