Brief Summary Of Job Duties

Under the direction of the Technical Director, the Scene Shop Manager oversees scenic, painting, and properties areas, including design execution, purchasing, maintenance, safety, inventory, supervision, teaching, and possibly serving as technical director or production supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area or equivalent experience/training
  • 1-3 years of practical experience with carpentry, rigging, welding, and technical skills
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience collaborating in educational environments
  • Mastery of properties, scenery, scenic treatments
  • Leadership, communication, organizational, mentoring skills

Job Functions and Percentages of Time

  • 40% Scenic Production: scenic construction, painting, properties, possibly as technical director
  • 30% Supervision/Student Labs: training, supervising, evaluating students and staff
  • 15% Maintenance/Facilities: maintaining shop, inventory, coordinating rentals
  • 10% Safety: training, documentation, safety compliance
  • 5% Budget and Scheduling: planning, estimating, budgeting scenic elements
