SUMMARY

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hotel engineering department, achieving hotel and departmental goals, and adhering to company standards. They supervise, develop, and maintain ongoing maintenance operations for the hotel, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, preventive maintenance, hotel rooms, HVAC units, ice machines, pools, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency equipment, water softeners, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  1. Clean internal areas of buildings such as storage/boiler rooms, parking lots, public areas, banquet rooms, and guest rooms, including buffing, dusting, sweeping, mopping, washing windows, and trash removal.
  2. Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair building plumbing and electrical systems, replacing worn or defective parts like switches, fuses, faucets, and valves.
  3. Replace worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts in machines and equipment like vehicles, vacuum cleaners, and riding mowers.
  4. Monitor swimming pools and adjust chemical levels for proper sanitation.
  5. Maintain the landscape by cutting grass, trimming weeds, constructing flower garden borders, and planting flowers.
  6. Repair parking lots and sidewalks with asphalt, cold patching, and concrete.
  7. Operate snow removal equipment to keep parking lots and sidewalks clear.
  8. Perform repairs, painting, or replacement of interior walls, trim, wood, brick, stone, and concrete.
  9. Assist other departments with moving furniture and unloading supplies.
  10. Greet guests warmly and address maintenance concerns promptly to ensure satisfaction.
  11. Collaborate with other departments to respond quickly to guest requests for services and repairs.
  12. Assist in securing the property, including vehicles, tools, furniture, supplies, key cards, and guests.
  13. Use materials, chemicals, and tools safely to prevent waste, damage, or accidents.
  14. Implement preventative maintenance programs for exterior, public, and guest areas, participating in safety committees to maintain a hazard-free environment.
  15. Assist with setup, teardown, and cleaning of banquet and meeting rooms as needed.
  16. Run errands and drive vehicles as necessary to meet business needs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has limited supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to perform all essential duties satisfactorily. Requirements include:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED; or 1-3 months of related experience/training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
