Overview

Outdoor Education Team Leader

Year-round position to organize the education program and camp recreational activities, schedule, support and supervise Outdoor Education Instructors and Outdoor Education Coordinators. Train instructors and coordinators on Outdoor Education program, YMCA policies and procedures, and be a liaison between program and management. Lead the development of curriculum and journal to align with California State Educational Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Periodically set and review individual goals and provide ongoing feedback on staff performance.
  • Resolve conflicts in a professional manner.
  • Coordinate and train staff to lead hikes, facilitate team building, and initiate programming for clients.
  • Coordinate all aspects of informational technology for program staff including the set-up and configuration of hardware, training, and supervision of staff for computer use, and development of systems to efficiently interface with administrative and management areas of camp.
  • Develop and implement educational and recreational classes to meet California Education Standards as well as maintaining OE journal under supervision of the outdoor education program director.
  • Keep a positive relationship with all departments by responding to requests quickly and efficiently.
  • Follow specific directives of the Outdoor Education Program Director as assigned.
  • Assist in management of program equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for staff wellbeing and feedback system including leading professional development activities for staff.
  • Work as part of the camp management team. Serve as Manager on Duty for designated nights when program is in operation and assist with supervision of students during (but not limited to) mealtimes, in-cabin overnight, during transitional times and during cabin chores.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working with youth in Outdoor Education, Resident Camp, Day Camp, Summer Camp or like setting.
  • Minimum 1-year experience in leadership of educational outdoor residential program or related experience.
  • Able to maintain positive relations with supervisor and other staff.
  • Ability to become site-specific challenge course manager.
  • Physical ability to respond to critical incidents throughout the camp and on trails.
  • Physical ability to implement all program areas and lead hikes over rugged terrain.
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards camp, clients, and all other staff living on site.
  • Computer training and demonstrated proficiency with basic programming skills.
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that all staff (hybrid, remote, or onsite) within YMCA San Diego County are fingerprinted prior to reporting to work, including subsequent arrest notifications.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is required within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute.

Pay Range

USD $124.12 - USD $129.12 /Day.
