Learn more about the benefits of working at UCBrief Summary of Job Duties:The Assistant Resident Director (ARD) is an entry-level full-time live-in position responsible for assisting the Resident Director (RD) with the implementation of the student development program in campus housing at UC Santa Barbara. Under the supervision of the RD, the ARD utilizes a curricular approach and equity mindset as cornerstones of their daily work in facilitating student wellness, development, and belonging in a residential community. The contract term is 12 months (August - July) with the opportunity for a renewal of one additional term. The ARD may be assigned to a community that does not have students residing in the summer, at which time, the ARD will perform necessary duties to assist the department with preparing for fall opening and the upcoming academic year. Primary responsibilities include: - Assisting RD in the implementation of a curricular approach in the development and education of a residential community ranging from 500 to 1,800 residents. - Providing support in student staff training. - Overseeing community development, resident engagement and curricular initiatives. - Advising the hall/community council consisting of student leaders. - Assisting in basic counseling, advising, and referrals for student concerns. - Supporting student conduct adjudication and addressing emergencies and crisis situations. - Developing effective working relationships with department and campus colleagues. - Completing a comprehensive, self-directed professional development plan to further develop skills and competencies. - Supervision of student staff.
