Kitchell is seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Project Engineer to join our Central California region in Santa Barbara and build a long-term career at one of the most innovative and growth-oriented building companies in the United States.


Overview

Assist with Project Management / Construction Management services for a ground up large complex. This position has client facing responsibility.


As a Senior Project Engineer, you will be part of the team responsible for completing the Physical Education Replacement Building at Santa Barbara Community College. This project has a construction value of $96 million, with groundbreaking scheduled for Summer 2025.


Project Highlights

Designed by LPA, the new four-story, 77,187 SF facility will feature:

  • An NCAA gymnasium.
  • Multidisciplinary classrooms, dance and exercise studios, and a fitness center.
  • Staff and faculty offices.
  • Athletic support spaces, including a training room, team lockers, equipment storage, and laundry facilities.
  • Breathtaking ocean views, with sightlines overlooking the stadium, track, and field.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide PM/CM Consultant Services for the owner on predominantly vertical Public Sector programs or projects
  • Ensure operations are executed in accordance with company project management procedures and policies
  • Ensure delivery and adherence to contractual requirements and that all aspects of owner contracts are accomplished
  • Manage the procurement phase and development of RFQs and RFPs
  • Oversight of contracts, drawings, estimates, and specifications to ensure relation and compliance to project requirements
  • Coordinate, direct, and monitor activities of contractors/subcontractors, engineers, architects, and related performing entities
  • Manage project controls, cost, schedule, performance activities, and procedures required by the client
  • Identify and manage risk on the project, and advises and confers with regional executive prior to implementing risk mitigation actions
  • Actively participates on internal teams that focus on continuous improvement of the company
  • Ensure workplace health and safety policies and procedures are clearly communicated and understood by direct reports and enforces rules fairly and uniformly


Requirements

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture is preferred
  • 4 or more years of experience (with a minimum of a portion in the public sector) assisting Construction/Project Managers on construction project is required


Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong verbal, writing, and computer skills are required
  • Ability to perform construction quantity take-offs and assist with Change Order evaluations required
  • Proficient user skills with the MS Suite of tools and Bluebeam are required
  • Working knowledge of standard industry tools such as P6 and Procore is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of construction estimating, scheduling, general construction principles, techniques, and site safety is strongly preferred
  • Exposure to Division of State Architect (DSA) oversight in California is preferred but not required


Travel Requirements

This position is site specific and will be executed at the project location in Santa Barbara, CA.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly work in an office and or construction environment. Conditions regularly include exposure to outdoor elements, hot/cold temperatures, wet conditions, noise, atmospheric conditions, and cramped quarters. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.


Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, stand, walk, talk or hear and use hands to finger, feel and handle; frequently reach with hands and arms; occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must frequently lift and or move 10 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds.

The annual base salary range for this role is currently $92,000 - $100,000. The Company's salary ranges are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of various factors, including job-related skills, relevant education and experience, abilities of the applicant and equity with other team members. The annual base salary range listed here is subject to change at any time, in the Company's discretion, and does not alter in any way the at-will nature of the employment relationship.
