THE NEED

OPEN and PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY

To fill current vacancies at various elementary sites, with various schedules ranging from 2-7 hours, 183 days per year to support the expanded learning program, and to establish an eligibility list to fill future vacancies. The established eligibility list will remain in effect for one year.

THE POSITION

Under the direction of the Certificated staff member, assist in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students, assisting in the effective instruction and reinforcement of lessons in a high school level after school program; perform a variety of instructional, recreational, motivational and clerical duties; perform related duties as assigned. Positions in this classification are funded through grants. Program continuation is subject to receipt of reimbursement funds and the implementation of new grants.

THE CANDIDATE

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent. Requires two years of college (48 units) or pass the District's assessment that demonstrates knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction or pass the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). An Associate's degree is highly desirable.

Experience: Some experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults in an organized setting. Some experience using computers, software and other technology tools and resources relevant to providing academic and clerical support. Experience working with individuals with special developmental needs is desirable.

TESTING INFORMATION:
The examination process may be comprised of multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the

Step 1: Application screening (pass/fail)
Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position will be emailed an examination pass. Exam passes will not be sent until after the closing date for the position. A photo ID and the examination pass are required for admittance to the exam.

(If applicants do not possess 48 units of college or an associate's degree or higher, they will be required to take and pass a proficiency exam).

Step 2: Written Examination (Proficiency Test), if applicable(required if you do not possess a minimum of 48 college units).Applicants will be tested on Math, English and the ability to assist with students. This will be offered on going.

Step 3: Qualification Appraisal Interview (weighted 100%) Date to be determined.

Applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list.

ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION
New Hires - Initial Salary Placement
The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria:

  • Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification)
  • Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position) To be considered for advanced salary placement upon hire transcripts and/or diploma must be provided

All new hires placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period.

Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years.

Promotional and/or transfer candidates will be placed at the appropriate step in accordance with established Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations.

Education Incentives
All active, regular classified employees are eligible for an education incentive if they possess a degree which is above and beyond the stated minimum qualifications for their classification.


AA/AS = 2.50%
BA/BS = 4.00%
MA/MS = 5.00%
Ed.D./Ph.D/JD = 6.00%

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (Upon Offer of Employment)
  • Employment Verification: The Immigration Reform and Control Act requires that the District obtain documentation from every individual who is employed which verifies identity and authorizes his/her right to work in the United States.
  • Individuals selected for employment are required to submit to a tuberculosis risk assessment, and, if risk factors are identified, would then be required to submit to a tuberculosis examination to determine freedom from tuberculosis.
  • The District reserves the right to require a job related physical examination and satisfactory results from such an exam.
  • Fingerprinting: State law requires that all employees be fingerprinted. AB1610 prohibits employment until the Department of Justice completes its obligations regarding the arrest and conviction information, and from employing a person who has been convicted of a violent or serious felony, as defined.
  • All candidates with a conviction record for offenses other than minor traffic violations, must file a conviction record statement with their application. Such a conviction, or failure to report a record of convictions, may bar you from employment.
  • Other: Eligibles will be required to provide a current DMV report and/or proof of auto insurance to the Classified Human Resources Department before being certified for a final selection interview for positions that require the employee to drive a district vehicle and/or hold a valid California driver's license.

HOLIDAYS

Approximately 14 paid holidays per year.

VACATION

Vacation is earned based on assigned hours. (For example: a new employee working 8 hours/day, 12-months per year will earn one vacation day per month, up to a total of twelve (12) days of vacation per
year. Employees who work less than 12-months per year or less than 8 hours/day shall be entitled to a prorated share of vacation benefits as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.) Vacation earned increases with years of service with the district.

SICK LEAVE

The district provides for 1 day of illness leave per month worked, with unlimited accumulation for unused days.
