ABOUT THE CITY
The City of Goleta is a thriving community with a current population of 33,000, located on the south coast of Santa Barbara County, approximately 100 miles northwest of LosAngeles and just ten miles west of downtown Santa Barbara. Stretching approximately eight square miles along a beautiful coastline within a narrow coastal plain, Goleta is a place of exceptional natural beauty nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The City of Goleta has several internship opportunities that offer meaningful learning and work experience for current students (undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral) and recent graduates. Our internships are designed to benefit a student's academic goals in a professional and safe working environment. Our departments currently offering internships include Public Works (Environmental Services), Finance, Planning and Environmental Review, and the City Manager's Office.

Typical Qualifications
Interns must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Enrolled full-time or part-time in an undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degree program at an accredited college or university, OR
  • Obtained an undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degree. OR
  • Meet requirements as stipulated for an educational, certification, or licensure program.If internship assignment requires driving, incumbent must possess a valid California driver's license.
    Supplemental Information
    Schedule: Interns work a flexible schedule agreed upon with the City and intern. Interns will be limited to not more than 999 hours in any July through June fiscal year. Weekly schedule and hours are flexible and are to be coordinated between the City and the intern.

    Classification and Salary: Interns will be paid an hourly wage as established by the City Council and shall not be eligible for other City benefits.

    The exam process will include, but is not limited to:
    • Application review for minimum qualifications and required documentsTests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
